In these works I use literal decay and destruction, and the idea of the shadow and the distorted reflection.
Normal expectations of the natural world (2019)
The works are made up of drawings of shadows and reflections. But they are also, metaphorically, shadows: they are versions of what they used to be.
A related association to absence (2019)
The copper and mild steel plates are being eaten away by corrosive chemicals, and they will continue to decay if I don’t stop the process.
Moments of mute encounter (2019)
I use the more environmentally friendly chemicals like salt, water, hydrogen peroxide and ammonia to corrode the metal.
Urgency and enormity (2019).
The plates shown here are sealed, so the corrosion is slowed down or stopped, but I’m leaving some unsealed test plates to decay further in my studio, to see what comes from that.
